Energy Storage Systems & Microgrids
The demand for batteries world wide is set to increase ten fold (from 2015) by 2030 as prices continue on the downward trend. This is driven by demand from utilities, home and industrial users, electric vehicles, etc. Battery energy storage systems are deployed under the following situations:
- To provide frequency regulation for grid stability.
- To reduce the effects of intermittency of PV supply and as a result, reduce charges on intermittency pricing mechanism
- To store excess energy from PV systems
- To store Grid energy during period of low tariff for later use when the tariff is high
- To avoid or reduce peak demand charges
- To provide reactive power to regulate local network voltage
- Peak load shaving/demand management
